DIY$ Reading Corner

One thing to know about me is that I love to read. Since I started keeping track of my reading in 2010, I have averaged more than 1 book per week. Much of my reading is Finance related, but I try to read a lot of different topics and some fiction too. Check here to see what I'm currently reading and for suggested books on a variety of topics.

Best Finance Books

Simple Wealth, Inevitable Wealth - Nick Murray  - One of the best books on wealth creation and preservation with a lot of discussion about the psychology of investing for the long-term
The Millionaire Next Door - Thomas Stanley - One of the first personal finance books I read, it's a great read for anyone in the early stages of their career to understand what millionaires truly look and act like
Freakonomics - Steven Levitt - A lot of similar books have since been written, and it might not get a '5-star' rating from me were I to read it again today but this was a very entertaining read, and helps show how one can find evidence for even some of the craziest theories.

Best History Books

Team of Rivals - Doris Kearns Goodwin - Many books have been written about President Abraham Lincoln, but this one is unique in it's focus on the way he selected and worked with his cabinet

Best Sociology Books

Just Mercy - Bryan Stevenson - Very few books drive me to action like this one did. The author is an attorney focused on wrongful convictions and death penalty cases. A must read.

Best Science Fiction

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card - A classic, quick read. Future books in the series get worse the further you go, but the first is an excellent standalone
The Martian - Andy Weir - Few authors can incorporate orbital mechanics and astrophysics into a story and still have it be easy to read.
Artemis - Andy Weir - After reading the Martian I knew I would have to read everything else Andy Weir writes. This one did not disappoint

Best Classics

Les Miserables - Victor Hugo - As good as some of the movie and theatrical recreations have been (PBS mini-series is the best), the book is absolutely worth reading at least once in your life.

Best Fiction Books

Point of Impact - Stephen Hunter - The book that inspired the movie and TV Series "Shooter". There are many more in the series with the same characters, but the first one is the best
Transfer of Power - Vince Flynn - Fun action series with an entertaining protagonist. This was my favorite of the series.
A Time to Kill - John Grisham - Whenever I think of this book, I remember the suspense I felt while reading it and how I couldn't put it down. John Grisham novels are always entertaining, but this is one of his best.
